Coastal Recruiting - Weekly Engineering Spotlight, March 1

Happy Friday everyone - writing this week’s edition of Coastal’s candidate spotlight from the hotel lobby of EthDenver. Before getting into this week’s rockstars (and oh baby, are they rockstars) I wanted to take a moment to express how excited, and grateful, I am to announce a key addition of the Coastal Team - Asher Hoffman. I’ve known Asher for some time now and somehow managed to convince him to join as a Partner here at Coastal (tbh, still not sure how I managed to get someone as talented as him to join me - but heck, I’ll take it!). We’re continuing to build something special and have another exciting team announcement coming in a few weeks.

Now - back to regularly scheduled programming. Below are profiles of rock-star engineers who would be an asset to any early stage startup across AI/ML and blockchain. Feel free to forward this to any founder/hiring manager you know hiring talented engineers across the stack. 

Founding Smart Contract / BE Engineer

• Currently part of Magic’s core engineering team, previously leading R&D efforts at Magic

• Prior to Magic, was a YC Founder/CTO at CypherD Wallet (W22)

• Expertise in crypto Wallets, key management & wallet infrastructure

• Prior to blockchain, worked at Stripe on their tax platform, owning data pipelines & real time streaming systems at Stripe and worked at eBay for 7 years - working on large scale distributed systems in their Marketing Tech Platform

Founding FS Engineer (Web3)

• Previous experience at Google, Fin and most recently working at a DeFi startup called Skolem

• At Fin, was tech lead for Chrome extension that had 40k+ users and led security and release (Typescript, Javascript, React, Python)

• At Skolem, build trading UI’s for DeFi protocols which included swapping + lending + integrating DeFi markets. Also led the API safety team.

• Strongest in BE-focused role, actively looking for an early stage startup in web3 

Sr Backend / Infrastructure Engineer

• Sr/Staff Level Cloud Infrastructure engineer experience at large, small and hyper-scale companies

• At Uber, he was the SRE tech lead for Core Services, leading productionization of rewrite of our critical services serving user, partner and trip data scaling them from 5k QPS to 1M QPS in production today.

• Currently a Sr Infrastructure lead at Truework, managing all Infrastructure repositories, Database systems as well as Incident Management programs

• Keen on joining an early-stage startup with expanded ownership, role scope, and ability to influence the roadmap

Founding BE Engineer (Web3 + AI)

• Previous founder, with founding engineer experience across AI and Web3

• Currently a Staff SWE @ Uniswap, overseeing key backend initiatives and a team of 5. Prior to Uniswap, he was an early engineer @ Number AI (rising to be an engineering manager) and was a Sr SWE @ Location Labs

• He also spent two years building and scaling a cryptocurrency arbitrage platform with some friends from UC Berkeley.

• Looking to be an early engineer on an innovative team, either in web3 or AI

Founding FS Engineer (AI)

• Strong mix of startup and big tech experience, 9+ years @ SnapChat, Facebook, One Concern (joined during Series A), and Apple (Maps Team) 

• Most recently a hands-on technical lead at SnapChat building infrastructure for content posting & processing while also having ownership over platform developer experience

• Previously was a ML Infra Lead at "One Concern - joined in their Series A and built infrastructure between Applied ML and Product environments.

• Active advisor and contributor to early-stage AI projects, looking to join a well-funded AI team as a early/founding engineer
