Coastal Recruiting - Weekly Engineering Spotlight, Feb 23

Another Friday, another round up of engineers looking for new startup opportunities💪 At Coastal, our sole focus is helping hyper-scale companies hire agile engineers and product leaders across the stack – this week, we’re highlighting several candidates who are the ideal profile for a Founding Engineer… they’ve hacked at their own side projects, are previous founders, and/or have been founding engineers and want to go 0-1 (again).

Founding Backend Engineer 

• After 3 years as a SWE @ Google and 2 years as a SWE @ SpaceX, he founded his own consumer application - which wound up shutting down - and moved to Caddy (City Discovery pre-seed startup) as a Founding BE Engineer 

• At Caddy, he designed, developed and launched application architecture - building robust, secure cloud infrastructure from the ground up

• Caddy has shut down, and he’s looking to be the earliest engineer possible on a promising B2B or B2B2C startup

• BS, CS from Yale

Founding Full-Stack Engineer (fintech, payments, AI)

• Very strong founding backend engineer in the payments / fintech space, with experience at Point72, Affirm, X1 and Robinhood

• Was an early, founding engineer at X1 - where he owned key backend architecture decisions. He wrote X1's initial big data pipelines, vendor API management, data warehouse, ETL's, and formatted it for consumption.

• X1 was acquired by Robinhood and after several months he’s ready to join an early-stage startup at the cutting edge of AI.

• BS, Statistics and Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon 

Founding Backend Engineer (web3)

• Currently a principal-level backend engineer with web3 experience at Hashflow, and staff experience at Twitter where he worked for 7+ years

• Has founding engineering experience at Mimetic Markets, where he was a lead developer. At Hashflow, he was the lead on building the core infra for their AMM as well as lead adding Solana support to their DEX trading platform 

• MS, Mathematics in Finance from NYU

Founding Cloud Infrastructure Engineer 

• Currently a Sr Cloud Security Engineer at Block, he has deep experience in the fintech / payments space (Apple, Chime, Credit Karma, etc) - working across all major cloud platforms

• At Block, he spun up and secured Block's Kubernetes clusters and scaled services. He also built their data platforms to give security insights as well as deploying and building Kubernetes services from scratch

• Actively looking to join an early-stage team where he can grow and have expanded impact, ideally in AI

• MS, Cybersecurity from Georgia Tech

Founding Backend Engineer 

• Currently backend infrastructure engineer @ Glean with previous experience at Google

• Currently owning Glean's platform search capabilities, leading efforts on scalability & reliability.  Also was involved with the company's ElasticSearch plugin to OpenSearch.  

• He’s looking at opportunities where he can work directly with the founders / technical leadership and build with the ground up - also keen on joining a team with an emphasis on continuous learning. 

• BA, Mechatronics Engineering w/focus in AI from University of Waterloo 

Senior Data Scientist  

• As a Senior Data Scientist @ ChowNow and 10+ years of startup experience, she’s well-versed in B2B and B2C products / businesses 

• She has years experience utilizing statistical and mathematical approaches to creative predictive models at scale

• Currently looking for an opportunity to join an early-stage team, being at the ground floor of a company investing in Data Science (and ultimately views Data Science as a core value driver of the business) 

• PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from Duke
