Cracked 0-1 beasts in NYC + SF
Hey Everyone -
For those new, welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly candidate spotlight - where we highlight candidates in SF and NYC, who are looking for their next startup opportunity. As reminder, we’re a boutique startup recruitment agency representing stellar engineering talent in SF + NYC (coast-to-coast, as they say…)
Yesterday I flew to SF to watch Tyler - CEO/Co-Founder of beehiiv (and very good friend) - give a fireside chat with Eric Ries (Lean Startup author). Been a blast watching him build beehiiv and drop knowledge bomb after knowledge bomb to founders, operators and investors last night.
At Coastal, we embody much of beehiv’s ‘ship fast’ mantra (yes, even for a recruiting business 🤣)… and have loved helping them build their eng team.
Now - without further ado - peep the beast engineering profiles below looking for their next startup in NYC + SF👇
Full Stack/Front End Engineer (SF)
He is currently at a T1 VC backed Series B generative AI startup, leading technical strategy for pricing systems, backend architecture, and LLM integration; previously worked at Bonfire and interned at Coinbase and Amazon.
Actively seeking new opportunities, particularly in early-stage startups approaching product-market fit, with a focus on roles that allow for career progression towards tech lead or ownership positions, and involvement in product design and pricing strategy.
Broad experience in pre-seed to Series A startups, with full-stack development expertise and a preference for frontend work; proficient in Python, JavaScript (React, TypeScript), Java, and Go, and skilled in technologies like Stripe, Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.
Full Stack/Back End Engineer (SF)
Background includes experience at Google, DoorDash, and Replit, where he built the AI agents infrastructure, developed tooling, and focused on monitoring and stability, transitioning from infrastructure to a more product-oriented role.
Strongest in backend development but capable of full-stack work; at DoorDash, he successfully built and launched the catering feature from concept to data launch.
Actively seeking opportunities at early-stage startups where he can expand his skill set, motivated by the desire to build end-to-end solutions, collaborate with smart teams, and tackle interesting problems in a fast-paced environment.
Infrastructure Engineer (SF)
Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and data platform engineering, with a focus on building reliable systems that support various product use cases; experienced in leveraging data for product and feature development.
Has consistently engaged in 0-1 projects throughout his career, including work at Apple in a special products group developing new AWS infrastructure, and at Standard AI, where he upgraded an unstable data stack during its Series C phase.
Seeking opportunities in Series A or larger startups within AI, data platforms, or digital health; prefers to work in a high-growth environment with a collaborative team of 5-10+ members, either in-office or hybrid, where he can take ownership and drive product features forward.
Founding Engineer (NYC)
Co-founder of a YC startup where he built the product from 0-1 and raised $22M in funding; currently on the board while seeking new opportunities in NYC after relocating from SF.
Architected his startup’s core ledger, developed backend services, client-facing APIs, and a payment processor gateway, with strong expertise in Python, TypeScript, and Golang; also set up AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure.
Motivated to find a role at Series A startups or later where he can have ownership and impact, while working closely with talented teams and founders, ideally in an office environment.
Backend Engineer (NYC)
Holds a Bachelor's in Mathematics and a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania; currently working at an AI startup in the healthcare space but seeking more challenging problems outside of this domain.
Functions as a backend generalist with a focus on infrastructure, SRE, security, and data pipelines; architected Infrastructure as Code (IaaC) using Terraform for GCP, ensuring compliance with regulations for personal health information.
Developed networking infrastructure for VPN configurations, managed secrets securely, and built data pipelines in Airflow on GCP Kubernetes Engine, handling terabyte-scale data and scaling AI model training to run 10,000 VMs.
Full Stack/Backend Engineer (NYC)
Harvard CS graduate with high emotional intelligence and low ego, currently a Backend Software Engineer at Cedar (Series D), focusing on client integrations and managing electronic health record (EHR) data using Python and SQL.
Motivated by the desire for a more varied and challenging work environment, she seeks roles with greater impact, ideally in full-stack or backend positions at smaller companies or early-stage startups.
Experienced in backend integrations and full-stack development, with proficiency in Python, Django, SQL, and JavaScript (React); knowledgeable in cloud technologies like AWS and skilled in building integration pipelines and working with external APIs.
Give me a shout if any of the profiles catch your eye!
