Coastal Recruiting - Engineering Candidate Spotlight, May 24

For those new, welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly roundup of the top engineers we’re working with – as a reminder, Coastal starts working with companies at the Seed/Series A stage – helping them build their engineering teams. From Founding Engineer to Staff/Principal Engineers, we help Founders + CTO’s hire across the stack.

Coastal routinely works with engineers who’ve gone 0-1 and - after seeing scale + commercial success - are looking to get back in the builders seat, joining mature Seed and Series A startups. Our talent network is strongest in SF and NYC - and have had a blast helping companies in both cities build engineering teams.

• Has only known early engineering environments; interned @ Blend, Robinhood, Founding Eng @ Parafin and Founding Eng @ Beam

• At Parafin and now at Beam, he contributed materially to initial iterations of the early product (including talking to customers, partners, and working directly w/Founders on roadmap)

• Rare combination of full-stack SWE experience and an academic background (BS, CS + MS, AI) - he’s looking to join an early-stage AI company where he can be close as possible to the product

Founding, Early Engineer

• Currently a Founding Eng at a well-known AI marketing company and previous experience at Amazon, this candidate has the perfect blend of Big Tech and 0-1 experience

• As Founding Eng, he architecture and built the entire backend tech stack from scratch - now serving 30+ enterprise customers 

• Currently looking for a strong-seed / Series a team innovating in AI that has a very concrete, concise vision and thesis

• Strongest on the backend 

Early ML Engineering Leader

• Currently a Sr Machine Learning Engineer @ ElisaAI (conversational AI for multi-family leasing) and previously was a Sr ML Eng Lead @ Twitter, this candidate is the perfect profile for a Sr Machine Engineering Engineer / Lead

• Main motivations are joining a Series A startup where AI/ML is a core part of the product / company strategy - ideally as a Sr ML Lead

• BS, Stanford (Electrical Engineering); MS, Stanford (Electrical Engineering: Optimization and Signal Processing)

Founding, Early Engineer

• This candidate has seen scale in every possible way, and ready to get after it again

• First engineer / first (non-founder) employee at Parafin - he helped build the product and scaled it to where it is today

• Was leading a team of engineers; ultimately responsible for the core product and growth - scaling the merchant cash advance product from $0 to $30+ per month

• He really wants to go 0-1 again with a Seed / small Series A company building something ambitious in AI

• Mainly looking for onsite, SF roles

Founding, Early Engineer (SWE + ML)

• Certified beast; magna cum laude from Duke University and currently an ML/platform engineer at Nuro. Actively looking for a startup where he can wear multiple hats and gain more exposure to cross-functional work / teams

• Currently he’s split between ML work and platform work, ML modeling, architecture, data engineering, and some systems work.  He loves that he splits his time working on different projects and likes having a lot of responsibility.
