Coastal Recruiting - Engineering Candidate Spotlight, June 28

0-1 engineers, looking for their next startup

Happy Friday!

For those new, welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly newsletter where we highlight top engineering profiles we’re working with - mainly in San Francisco and New York City. All engineers are actively interviewing, ideally looking for a high-growth Seed or Series A startu where they can have expanded ownership, impact, and ship quickly.

As always, feel free to share this email with any founder or hiring manager you know building their engineering teams… And of course reply directly to learn more.

AI/ ML Engineering & Research Lead

  • He's been at Open AI for the past 5+ years,c onducted research at Stanford's AI Lab, co-authoring papers on optimizing battery charging protocols and contributed to emergent tool use in multi-agent interactions at OpenAI.

  • Silver medalist in the International Mathematical Olympiad, with expertise in algorithms, C++, and mathematics. Deep experience on distributed deep reinforcement learning and customizing large language models.

Full-Stack, Product Engineer

  • Unique candidate in that he’s worked @ Blend, then spent 3 years helping startups (backed by Founders Fund and A16Z) get from 0-1. Most recently he’s been @ a YC Startup .

  • At Moonlight, he built their MVP from the ground up and on boarded the first users. Today, the platform supports 25 facilities and 125 clinicians in their private beta.

  • At his current company, he joined just before they achieved product-market fit with their door locks integration and experienced hypergrowth with the team. He took full ownership of the thermostats integration, leading design reviews, engaging with early users, and writing most of the code..

Senior BE Engineer

  • Based in NYC, he is a strong Senior BE engineer with experience at companies like Airbnb, Two Sigma IQ and Chronosphere. He's currently a Founding Engineer at an EV technology company focusing on fleet management.

  • He joined Chronosphere when the team was sub 40 people and saw it scale to several hundred, ultimately moving into a role of a tech lead (where he was still hands on) but provided mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

  • He misses his time at Chronosphere where he saw tremendous scale and is hoping to join a well-funded Seed / Series A startup innovating in AI with a tangible use case.

Product Engineer (AI/ML + Web3)... 0-1 Master

  • He’s the first engineer hire at Magic and one of the early engineer hires at Alchemy. He knows startups well and loves joining super early stage.  He loves working across engineering, strategy, etc and has spent many years working with early stage startups.

  • He loves working on the backend/infra side and working on challenging problems. Loves the AI space and wants to go into an AI startup in his next role.  Motivations: wants to work with good people, people who communicate well, solve interesting problems, and be a part of an early engineering team.

Founding Full Stack Engineer (AI/ML)

  • Currently part of the founding team at a well-funded web3 infrastructure startup, he experience at Square, Okta, Uber and CipherCloud

  • he built out the deposit handling and tracking + transactions towards the wallets that are managed in the internal ledger - all built 0-1. At Square, he rewrote all the existing queries to the databases and added a ton of new features. He's backend leaning but can work across the stack. He also loves interfacing with clients

  • After working in web3, he realized AI is there he wants to pivot into and looking to join a well-funded Series A or Seed AI startup - ideally where he can work on the backend and speak with clients

Have a great weekend.
