Coastal Recruiting - Engineering Candidate Spotlight, June 14

For those new, welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly newsletter of top engineering profiles – all actively interviewing and insanely talented across the stack. Feel to pass along this email to any founder / hiring manager building their eng team and have them drop time on here. 

Before digging into this week’s profiles (AI/ML, web3, trading) - excited to share 2 massive milestones for Coastal:

1. Promotion time!  Abby Creager joined Coastal as our first employee, taking the leap of faith to help us go 0-1.. With literally 0 process, 0 reputation in the market - and now watching her grow into a leader on the team has been one of the most fulfilling parts of building Coastal. Thrilled to announce that Abby has been officially promoted to our VP of Recruiting and Staff Development! 

2. We’re Growing! #GoodPeopleKnowGoodPeople - and stoked to announce Dan Bruck is joining Coastal as Director of Recruiting. Dan brings a wealth of early-stage recruiting experience, having helped build engineering teams at legendary companies like Character AI, dYdX, Together AI, Attentive, Brightwave and many others. Stay tuned for another exciting update next week…

Staff SWE / ML Eng

• 9+ years engineering experience, with previous tenures at Clari as a Senior SWE and Jasper as a Staff ML Engineer 

• At Jasper, he built Jasper Inference Engine, an MLOps platform on top of MLRun stack for managing registration, inference and monitoring of the LLMs fine-tuned at Jasper - taking the project from ideation all the way to its first milestone

• Looking for a ML Leadership role - ideally in NYC but open to SF for the right opportunity 

Sr Tech Lead - Algorithmic Trading (crypto, tradfi) 

• Currently on a curated team of high performers @ his Instinet Inc where he’s recently rebuilt their algo trading platform from 0-1.

• He has 15+ years of experience as a backend engineer. They have microsecond requirements for performance. He works on high level architecture and highly distributed problems. 

• @ Merrill Lynch he worked on high frequency trading systems where the SLA was low latency. He has experience with low latency order intake, risk checks, and matching - it’s the core of what he’s been focused on for the last 7 years.

Senior SWE (ML/AI)

• Waterloo CS and Masters, recently been working at Tome as a ML Eng - contributing to features from product inception, technical direction, and implementation. Also, has been leading the finetuning effort, and improving generation quality, and reducing latency.

• Previously, he worked as ML Eng at Embark trucks and held internships at Facebook and Linkedin.

• Looking to join early-stage startup innovating at the GenAI application layer 

Senior SWE (ML/AI)

• Masters from Cornell. Currently @ Rose AI - looking for on-site culture with a smart team. She’s built architecture from 0-1 @ Rose and done research to improve their accuracy. 

• Previously she’s done FS work in Python and React. She’s had a blend of ML roles with her focus on LLMs. She mainly worked at early stage startups and looking for a rocketship AI startup to join - ideally with an onsite culture in SF 

Senior Tech Lead / Founding Engineer (Web3) 

• Strong mix of web3 and web2 engineering experience, both as a leader and as an IC. He was previously CTO of Mirror World, where he oversaw building web3 infra for game studios - solely focused on Solana to start, which expanded to other EVM ecosystems.

• Mirror's product suite included MPC (Multi-Party Computation) wallet, Cross-Chain Token Swap, Cross-Chain NFT mint, OnRamp token/NFT, chain indexer, GameFi. As CTO - he led strategic direction, was in the weeds coding daily, and regularly engaging with Mirror's 60+ customers to help inform product roadmap, key architecture decisions, etc.

• He's looking to join an early-stage team innovating in the Solana / EVM ecosystem 

Staff Backend Eng (AI)

• Strong IC Backend Engineer with 12+ years of experience. Long tenures @ Scale AI, OpenAI and Nvidia -  where he was there long enough to experience the repercussions of his engineering decisions.

• Significant experience with LLMs. Has architected and built backend systems. Looking to make an impact at an early stage startup. Strong in Python, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, C#. Loves to be hands on coding and has also led teams and products.
