Top Eng Candidates in SF + NYC... big announcement 👀
For those new, welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly candidate spotlight - where we highlight candidates in SF and NYC, who are looking for their next startup opportunity. Interesting to note the amount of SF-based engineers willing to relocate to NYC (some citing a better dating scene in NYC as a data point…).
Keep an eye out for an exciting announcement coming from our small crew next week about an awesome addition to the team. This person has been advising us on doing things the ‘right way,’ been an advocate for the start, and am honored to have another high quality human join Coastal. More to come there…
Now, see below for this week’s candidate spotlight. As always - if any profile catches your eye, don’t hesitate to reach out!
AI/ML/Data Engineer (SF)
She graduated from NYU and joined conversational AI startup Kasisto as a Data Scientist/Data Engineer, where she built NLU models and a data processing pipeline from 0-1, helping deliver faster solutions to banking clients.
Transitioned to a product software engineer role, developing full-stack features, running experiments in data pipelines, and extracting insights for reporting; also involved in a startup project for deep learning visualization and UI/UX design.
Strongest languages include Python, Django, and Java, with current work in React.
Full Stack Engineer (SF)
After graduating from Purdue, she worked in full-stack roles at Bank of America and Tesla before joining her current AI startup, Mendel AI, as an early engineer.
Initially focused on frontend development, she has expanded her role to include optimizing, Dockerizing models, automating pipelines/DevOps, and building a health services dashboard from 0-1.
Thrives in a fast-paced setting while wearing multiple hats, with strong skills in React, Python, and TypeScript.
AI/ML Engineer (SF)
Currently at Tavus, a Sequoia-backed Series A startup, in an applied ML role focused on MLOps, ML infrastructure, training LLMs, and model development; recently contributed to a product launch featuring conversational video chat.
Holds a Master's in AI from Johns Hopkins and a BS in Computer Science from UCLA, with prior experience as a Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman and in traditional ML roles in DC.
He is interested in cutting-edge AI/GenAI problems and open to both research and applied ML roles.
Sr. Full Stack/Back End Engineer (NYC)
Strong full-stack engineer with a backend focus, previously a core engineer at Amazon for the launch of SageMaker, and a technical advisor for LegUp (acquired); spent two years at Protocol Labs improving protocols and leading architecture.
Currently a founding engineer at Approximate Labs, where he built the largest dataset of tables by extracting 69 TiB from various formats and developed a training data collection pipeline, resulting in the publication of the TabLib paper.
Proficiency in multiple languages including Python, Go, and TypeScript, and a preference for high-intensity, ambiguous environments.
AI/ML Engineer (NYC)
Holds a BSc in AI with Honors from Carnegie Mellon University, and has spent the last 4 years at Google X working on startup-like projects within a flat organization.
Currently leading ML/AI efforts on a significant project that has transitioned to non-stealth mode, having been the second engineer hired and the first ML engineer on the team.
Passionate about 0-1 work; she has written and productionized models from scratch and is eager to explore opportunities at early-stage startups to continue her applied AI/ML research.
Full Stack/Front End Engineer (NYC)
Full stack developer with a frontend focus, experienced in building products end-to-end and from 0-1, currently at a startup creating AI solutions for financial advisors.
Developed a client meeting preparation tool using LLMs, a GPT-powered chatbot for portfolio explanations, and a system for creating financial models across multiple portfolios.
Proficient in TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, and Next.js for frontend development, with backend experience in Python and Golang; previously used Ruby on Rails at Coinlist.
As always, give me a shout if any of the profiles catch your eye or know any founders building their engineering teams in NYC or SF.
Enjoy the long weekend!
