Coastal Recruiting - Engineering Candidate Spotlight, Aug 23

0-1 Engineers, SF Recap, Copywriting + Marketing Recs

Landed @ LAX late last night from a few days in SF - meeting clients, partners, and VC funds - damn its energizing sitting side-by-side builders, investors and operators. Outside of the contagious hustle-culture San Francisco I find so energizing, this trip reinforced how much more you can accomplish in one coffee or dinner compared to countless video chats or async slack messages…

We’re up to some exciting things here at Coastal and are searching for a long term marketing partner / agency (someone who can help with strategy + execution, familiar with tech twitter + meme culture, etc). If you have anyone in your network who might be interested (solopreneur or boutique agency) - would love to chat 🙏

Now, see below for this week’s candidate spotlight. As always - if any profile catches your eye, don’t hesitate to reach out

Full Stack Engineer / Product Engineer (NYC)

AI/ML Engineer (NYC)

  • She is a top CS graduate from Berkeley, with extensive involvement in ML/AI and experience running her own consulting company, later acquired by an AI consulting firm.

  • Currently at Hex, developing AI infrastructure and RAG systems, with expertise in large data processing and search/retrieval; actively working with LLMs and conducting research with OpenAI GPT-4 and Claude.

  • Previously at Ironclad, built AI infrastructure and NLP models from Series B to D, then joined a seed-stage security startup as their second engineer, focusing on scalable access management.

Full Stack Engineer (SF)

  • He has a CS degree from Berkeley, and joined a digital healthcare startup in Seattle where he worked on a patient content prescription platform, integrations, and backend systems, eventually building a Content Automation System that led to a partnership with Cerner.

  • Experienced growth from 10 to 25 engineers, followed by non-performance-related layoffs and reduction in force, now actively interviewing for startups in SF and NYC.

  • Skilled across the full stack, comfortable in both backend (TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, Python) and frontend (React.js), also proficient in Git, Docker, and AWS.

Full Stack / Founding Engineer (SF)

  • He is an experienced full-stack engineer with a passion for documentation, having worked at various startups throughout his career, including as a founding engineer at a YC-backed startup and early engineer roles at Code42 (acquired) and Pillar (pre-seed).

  • He joined Notable, a 100-person startup, where he helped with interviewing, hiring, building new products, and establishing best practices, CI/CD, and design systems.

  • During his time off, he started a non-profit organization called Strong Denver, which now has 200 members and a membership-based business model, and he has established a Board of Directors, showcasing his leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

Have a great weekend.
