Hey Everyone - David here from Coastal Recruiting… Happy Friday!
Welcome to Coastal Recruiting’s weekly candidate spotlight - where we highlight candidates in SF and NYC, who are looking for their next startup opportunity. As reminder, we’re a boutique startup recruitment agency representing stellar engineering talent in SF + NYC, across the stack.
Each week we highlight the profiles of the top talent we’re working with — with a blend between NYC and SF. If any of the below profiles catch your eye, don’t hesitate to reply directly to this email, send them to a portco or founder-friend building their eng team ⛏️
AI/ML Engineer (SF)
Blend between AI/ML Research and Data. Early engineer at Character AI; founding member of their Data team working on schemas and then shifted to lead core research efforts.
Previous Founding Engineer at 2 AI startups, and spent several years as an Applied Scientist at Microsoft.
BS, MS from Stanford
Full Stack Engineer (SF)
A full stack product engineer at a Series A AI startup, and holds a degree from MIT; she seeks to stay in the startup space while looking for a more positive development environment.
She started her career with Rails and has transitioned to Python/Flask, TypeScript, and React; she enjoys working with customers, tackling scaling issues, and contributing to products she’s passionate about.
She is looking for an exciting opportunity in AI at a startup with a strong team and work culture; previously, she was the founding engineer and head of software at Quartz, where she developed both web and mobile applications.
Product + BE Engineer (SF)
Founding Engineer at massive AI Legal startup’s Infrastructure team, where he’d been instrumental in building their core infra (including a GCP —> Azure migration)
At Cash App, he was on the cash for biz team building features for business users and at Asana, he was on the automation and workflows team.
Staff Software Engineer (NYC)
At Coinbase, he has held various lead engineer roles across frontend, backend, product, and infrastructure, contributing to key initiatives like the React Native rewrite and the development of the Coinbase Design System and Data Layer.
Previously at PwC, he was the Technical DRI for the launch of the “PwC myMobility” mobile platform, overseeing technical design and implementation; he holds an MS in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Computer Engineering from Cal Poly, completing both in an accelerated program, culminating in a thesis on API security in mobile platforms.
He is actively seeking a new challenge as a Staff-level individual contributor at a Series A startup that has found product-market fit and is experiencing rapid growth; he enjoys full stack software engineering and is tech agnostic, willing to adapt to different parts of the stack as needed
AI/ML/Infra Engineer (NYC)
Currently working at Figma, specializing in computing infrastructure for large-scale distributed systems, including file processing and AI-based search; he is interested in transitioning to an early-stage startup focused on AI for drug discovery, a field he has been passionate about since high school.
Eager to join a med-tech startup where he can significantly impact infrastructure and scaling systems; seeks to work with a trustworthy team that fosters growth and collaboration.
With several years in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI/ML technologies, he has simplified REST API infrastructure and built machine learning systems in previous roles; currently, he leads Figma’s multiplayer infrastructure development. Proficient in languages like Rust, Go, Python, and more, he is well-versed in AI, ML, and infrastructure scaling.
Back End/Full Stack Engineer (SF/NYC)
A Cornell CS graduate with experience at Twitter, open to relocating to San Francisco or NYC for her next role.
With over 4 years of software engineering experience, she has worked on internal tooling and APIs at Tailscale, focusing on billing systems, and previously designed systems for cross-datacenter replication at Twitter, impacting millions of users.
Preferring backend-leaning roles (80%) but open to full stack, she is skilled in Golang, Python, and various backend technologies; she prioritizes the value and impact of her work over compensation.
Give me a shout if any of the profiles catch your eye!
