Stellar engineers searching for their next role
Hey Everyone - David here from Coastal Recruiting… Happy Friday!
For those new, Coastal Recruiting is a boutique startup recruitment agency representing stellar engineering talent in SF + NYC, across the stack. We’re fortunate enough to work with exceptional talent and beyond grateful to have a team that invests heavily in the candidate relationship and experience.
Why is that so important? We grow with our startups. The candidates we place are hiring through us months (if not weeks) later. What goes around, comes around and receiving texts from candidates like the one below about Megan make me damn proud:
*She’s a brilliant AI/ML Engineer w/0-1 experience… BS from Purdue, MS from Cornell*
Each week we highlight the profiles of the top talent we’re working with — with a blend between NYC and SF. If any of the below profiles catch your eye, don’t hesitate to reply directly to this email, send them to a portco or founder-friend building their eng team:
Founding Data Engineer (NYC)
A Cornell graduate and 2x Founding Data Engineer, he has a strong backend generalist background across data engineering, backend development, team management, and ML ops in various industries, including fintech, blockchain, and Web3.
He began as a backend engineer at SIMON Markets, transitioned to ML engineering at Palo Alto Networks, and later worked as a founding engineer at AQUA XYZ and RWA, showcasing significant expertise in building data platforms and engineering teams from the ground up.
He is particularly interested in greenfield projects and early-stage environments that tackle real-world, high-impact data problems.
Distributed Systems/Back End Engineer (NYC)
He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern University and he is currently collaborating with a research group at Stanford on distributed systems programming for AI on high-performance computing (HPC), working alongside teams from Stanford CS, Carnegie Mellon, and Nvidia to scale AI models on supercomputers.
With over two decades of expertise in distributed systems, blockchain, finance technology, and AI research, he has relevant experience in financial systems, having worked extensively on Goldman Sachs’ internal SecDB platform—a distributed system for financial computations that he optimized for efficient operation on large machine networks. He co-founded Ondo Finance and Celerance Finance, applying distributed ledger and decentralized banking principles, and has held engineering roles at major firms, including Goldman Sachs and Facebook.
He is driven by technically challenging problems involving distributed systems, large-scale backend infrastructure, and financial analysis.
Back End Engineer (NYC)
A Michigan graduate with a collaborative personality, he has extensive backend and product experience; he enjoys thinking about the end user experience and prefers working alongside great engineers in an office setting.
Currently on the ledger and payments team at a Series B payments startup, he focuses on replatforming and building the platform from 0-1, including double ledger systems, executing payments with Stripe and Modern Treasury, and engineering their settlement workflows. Previously, he worked at Twilio on the Pricing Platform team, handling backend responsibilities and processing over 1 trillion transactions.
Staff Applied AI/ML/Data Engineer (SF)
Graduated from Stanford with a bachelor's in Mathematical & Computational Science and a master's in Computer Science, concentrating on AI; he has experience in both machine learning and data engineering.
At Character, he co-founded the data team with two other engineers, initially focusing on building a data lake by developing schemas, pipelines, and tools for data cleaning and deduplication. As the tooling matured, he transitioned back to Applied AI/ML Research, running experiments and pre-training on large data sets, effectively combining roles in Data Engineering and Research Engineering. He was also a founding engineer at a seed-stage AI/ML startup, contributing to the company's early development and infrastructure.
Staff Applied AI/ML/Computer Vision Engineer (SF)
At Samsung, he worked extensively with digital humans, perfecting lip-sync technology for applications like Alexa with a face. Starting in 2019, he was involved in R&D through deployment, supporting sales teams, and piloting photorealistic models with no delay. He led the ML team towards the end of his tenure, focusing on model design and data pipeline development, ensuring delivery quality and client expectations.
With over 15 years of experience in machine learning, he specializes in image and video synthesis, computer vision, and generative conversational AI. As a hands-on technical leader, he excels in articulating product requirements, developing ML pipelines, bridging research and engineering, resolving system bottlenecks, mentoring teams, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to drive business impact and project success.
Front End/ Full Stack Engineer (SF)
She is an MIT graduate and a dynamic junior engineer with experience in founding two startups; she joined a Series A AI/ML startup as their first new grad hire, where she has excelled as a full stack engineer with a strong focus on frontend development.
As the sole frontend engineer, she was responsible for all frontend aspects, working on the mobile app in React Native, and the website and web app using React, TypeScript, and HTML/CSS. She collaborated cross-functionally, aided in onboarding, and learned extensively from senior engineers.
Give me a shout if any of the profiles catch your eye!
